Marine Supporter Makes Quilt for Recovering Warrior

Last summer, we received message from a Marine Mom, Diana Fraser, telling us about a family friend of hers who sews quilts. This family friend had recently finished a red, white, and blue quilt that she wanted to give to a recovering warrior. They hadn't been able to find anyone in their area to help make this possible, so Diana asked us if we could help.

It took us a couple of months to get everything worked out, but we're pleased to announce that in late February, the quilt was delivered to Family Support Coordinator in the Marine Liaison Office at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Mia Nam.

Our Warrior Support Team–East Manager, Susan Kristol, recently spoke with Ms. Nam, who said that she would be giving the quilt to a Marine who has recently arrived after being wounded in an attack on an American base in northern Iraq last month. Fortunately, he and others affected by that incident are making progress in their healing and have moved from the inpatient hospital to the outpatient residence to continue their treatment.

The rooms in Tranquility Hall can be drafty, bland, and impersonal, and this beautiful, patriotic quilt will add a warm touch to cheer its recipient and those who support him in his path to recovery. Additionally, the woman who sewed the quilt included a card for the recipient that reads, "Hope you enjoy your [quilt]—it was made special for a young man who gave so very much for our country. God bless you always."

We'd like to thank everyone involved in this process for their dedication to supporting our Marines and we are grateful to the anonymous maker of the quilt for her generosity and thoughtfulness. It warms our hearts to know that there are those of you out there who want to give back to those who have sacrificed so much on our behalf. Thank you and God bless.
